We normally produce black pots, but occasionally fishermen ask for coloured ones. This has been on account of problems with theft or illegal lifting of gear. Due to production logistics only orders of large numbers will be accepted.
Tom Weedall, the designer of these pots fishes out of Barmouth, North Wales using turquoise coloured pots. This was partly for the above reasons but also to experiment whether others colours would catch larger quantities of prawns. The jury is still out on that one.
After some time at sea the pots develop a coating of sea growth that has to be cleaned off. Initially he spent many hours cleaning them with pressure washers. Then by chance he discovered that the easiest method of cleaning sea growth off our pots is to bring them ashore and leave them in the sun for a few weeks. The growth dries and then can be usually be easily brushed off.
He has also found that starfish can be useful as they feed on the barnacles thereby aiding maintenance
